World Horse Welfare - Digital Strategy & Transformation for International Equine Care

The Challenge

World Horse Welfare has been caring for, rehoming and supporting policy change and influence
for equids since 1927.

What We Did

An associate team of Strategy Director, Strategy & Experience Consultant and Technical Consultant started with a Discovery consisting of 3 parallel work streams:

Workstream 1: Internal people and process audit
Surveying, interviewing and facilitating workshops with a cross section of staff and stakeholders. This ensured we understood the current operating reality and wider ambitions.

Workstream 2: Audience research
Validating what existing donors, supporters and advocates need and want from the charity, and how well they felt it’s being delivered currently.

Workstream 3: Technical systems audit
Investigated and appraised existing and potential technical systems, interviewed staff and suppliers and reviewed documentation.

Bringing these three work streams together, we synthesised and aligned our findings into a Digital Strategy that contained:

  • Target Operating Model
  • High Level Data Strategy
  • Recommended Technical Architecture
  • Prioritised Strategy Roadmap

Outcomes

The new digital strategy has laid the foundation for the charity to progress their 5 year roadmap with an increased level of digital maturity.
One of our key recommendations was the creation of a Digital Centre of Excellence, headed by the creation of a new Head of Digital role. This was the first time WHW has recruited a role dedicated to design strategy and delivery, so we advised and helped facilitate the recruitment process, successfully appointing the new role as per our TOM and roadmap.

We continue to work with the team at WHW in an advisory capacity, supporting the creation of governance working groups and ongoing rollout of the strategy roadmap.

🔗World Horse Welfare

We had a great experience working with Alex and the team. We now better understand not only our audiences, but our organisation's value and strategic positioning. They were able to partner the Society's need for income diversification with the outputs from their research and gave us the confidence to create a robust and ambitious plan for the future. Their insight and approach to our challenges were exactly what we needed.
